An all purpose sauce?? Ok fine..not all purpose, but for most dishes, this sauce will work well. It’s savory, sweet, tangy, spicy and pairs well with meats, starches, rice and pasta, just to name a few.
I came up with this sauce when I made tonkatsu (recipe coming soon) and didn’t want to use the store bought sauce. I wanted a homemade sauce that was just as or more delicious than store bought with ingredients that I had at home or could easily get my hands on. I like knowing exactly what’s in my food and how it’s been prepared.
Like I said before, this sauce pairs well with most foods and will give it a flavorful boost without overpowering the main dish. Tweak it to however you like your sauce. Make a big batch and stick it in the fridge. It’ll keep for about 10 days or so, assuming it’s lasted that long…

- 6 tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
- 3 tablespoons Brown Rice Vinegar
- 3 tablespoons Sriracha
- .5 tablespoon Fish Sauce
- 3 tablespoons Honey
- 3.5 tablespoons Brown Sugar
- Add all the ingredients to a pot and bring to a boil on medium high heat.
- Turn the heat down and let simmer until thick.
- Season with a sprinkle of salt and black pepper.
